Baxter County 4-H is joining the nationwide celebration of National 4-H Week from October 4 to 10, with the theme “Beyond Ready.” Around 150 local members, alumni, volunteers, and supporters are expected to participate by wearing green, engaging in community service projects, and sharing stories on social media using the hashtags #4HBeyondReady and #National4HWeek.
“4-H gives our youth a space to grow into leaders who care about their community and future,” said Amanda Rychtarik, Baxter County Extension staff chair and 4-H agent. “We see that every day in the way they show up to learn at multiple club meetings and events.”
Nationally, 4-H is the youth development program of the Cooperative Extension System and is recognized as the largest youth organization in the United States. The program reaches six million participants through clubs, camps, school programs, and community events. This year’s “Beyond Ready” initiative aims to prepare 10 million young people for work and life by 2030.
Locally, the Baxter County Extension Office oversees 4-H with the help of educators, volunteers, and mentors. Members work on various projects, compete in contests, and earn opportunities to travel at little or no cost to their families. They also plan and execute the annual 4-H banquet, coordinate fundraisers, and develop skills in teamwork and communication.
“National 4-H Week is a powerful reminder that young people are already leading in extraordinary ways,” said Jill Bramble, president and CEO of the National 4-H Council.
