JONESBORO, Ark.—Plans for a new housing development in Jonesboro aim to provide adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities the opportunity to live more independently while maintaining access to essential support and services.
The Learning Center of Northeast Arkansas (TLC) announced its upcoming project, The Village of TLC, during its annual "Keys to Independence" fundraiser on Oct. 2 at The Lounge at Huntington Square. The planned development will include 20 accessible apartments tailored to meet residents' needs.
A significant $1.5 million gift from the Chris and Jamie Fowler Family has bolstered TLC’s $6 million capital campaign for the project, which began in June, according to TLC officials.
Each apartment at The Village of TLC will feature a full kitchen, a refrigerator, an in-unit washer and dryer, and a private front porch, designed to foster connection among neighbors. The development emphasizes independence while keeping critical resources in close proximity.
“We are incredibly grateful to Chris, Jamie and their family for believing in this vision and making such a meaningful investment in the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities," said Dr. Lynn Cooper, executive director of TLC. "The Village of TLC will be more than an apartment development. It will be a community where individuals have the opportunity to experience greater independence, build meaningful connections and live with the dignity and support they deserve.”
Proceeds from the “Keys to Independence” event will contribute to TLC’s mission and the overall capital campaign.
The work of TLC reflects ongoing efforts in Arkansas and across the country to improve quality of life for adults with disabilities by combining personalized support with accessible housing options.
