The Independence County Extension Office will host a community-focused event, “The Growing Social: Plant, Taste, and Play,” to engage residents with gardening demonstrations, food tastings, and a lesson in Mahjong.
The event, presented by the Division of Agriculture at the University of Arkansas System Research and Extension, is scheduled for Thursday, October 22, at 6 p.m. It will take place at the Extension Office, located at 1770 Myers Street in Batesville, next to the Sheriff’s Office.
Michelle Mobley of the Independence County Extension Office, speaking on local radio recently, said she and Family and Consumer Sciences Agent Julian Carpenter will guide participants through planting herbs, trying new recipes, and learning the tabletop game Mahjong. “Julian and I are learning and are going to learn together and teach people,” said Mobley. “If you do not know, come and play with us.”
Event registration is required by October 20. Those interested can call the Independence County Extension Office at 870-793-8840 to secure a spot.
“The Growing Social” is designed as an opportunity for local residents to come together for a fun and educational evening. The Extension Office encourages anyone curious about gardening, cooking, or Mahjong to participate.
