The University of Arkansas volleyball team dropped its first SEC road match of the season Friday, falling 3-1 to the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens. Despite a strong opening set, the Razorbacks couldn’t hold off Georgia in the closely contested match that ended with set scores of 25-17, 22-25, 15-25, and 23-25.
Sophomore outside hitter Parker Duncan led the Razorbacks’ offensive efforts with 17 kills, achieving a .325 hitting percentage and adding three aces. Senior opposite hitter Romani Thurman contributed 10 kills, marking her third match of the season with double-digit kills. Defensively at the net, Thurman tallied four blocks while Layla Smith added five more for the Hogs.
Freshman libero Madi Benne anchored Arkansas' back-row defense with a team-high 16 digs, and senior defensive specialist Gaby Cornier recorded 13 digs, tying her season high. Junior setter Kiki Remensperger posted an impressive double-double with 35 assists and 14 digs, her sixth of the season.
The loss brings Arkansas' overall record to 8-5 and their SEC record to 0-2. The team will look to rebound as the conference season progresses.
