October is officially recognized as 4-H Month, and young people between the ages of 5 and 19 are encouraged to get involved in the program.
According to Izard County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent Elizabeth Daigle, the 4-H experience offers youths the opportunity to develop new skills and engage with peers who share similar interests. Daigle has observed firsthand how participation in 4-H helps build confidence and fosters connections among young participants.
4-H provides a wide range of programs tailored to the interests of its members, including agriculture, science, technology, arts, and leadership. Through these programs, youths can explore their passions, collaborate on projects, and hone practical skills that benefit them throughout their lives.
Families interested in enrolling their children in 4-H or learning more about its programs can contact their local county extension offices. Offices are available in Melbourne, Salem, Ash Flat, Walnut Ridge, and Pocahontas.
