The National Weather Service is forecasting cooler fall temperatures moving into northern Arkansas, aligning more closely with seasonal norms after weeks of unseasonably warm weather. Officials noted that the transition brings a welcome shift to autumn-like conditions.
Rainfall totals in the area over the past several days have contributed to this seasonal change. At the Highland weather station, recent rainfall measured 0.91 inches and 2.11 inches on separate days, bringing the cumulative total to 3.02 inches. Similarly, the Salem weather station recorded one-day totals of 1.56 inches and 2.11 inches for a combined 3.67 inches during the same period.
Meteorologists say the combination of cooling temperatures and recent precipitation is finally creating the kind of October weather Arkansas residents expect this time of year: crisp, mild days and cooler nights. This shift marks a change from unusually persistent warmth in the earlier part of the fall season.
Residents are encouraged to prepare for cooler, seasonal weather to continue in the days ahead, with October now delivering a more traditional autumn experience.
