The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a firearms qualification shoot for retired law enforcement officers on Friday, October 30, starting at 8:30 a.m. The event will take place at the Sheriff’s Firing Range, located at the site of the old Baxter County Quarry on County Road 69 off Highway 5 South. Signs will mark the entrance to the range. Participation costs $10, payable in advance. Retired officers must provide their own firearm and ammunition, subject to certain restrictions. Participants are required to register in advance at the Sheriff’s Office. Registration includes completing an application and signing a release and waiver of liability form. The qualification course was developed by certified firearms instructors from the Sheriff’s Office. Retired law enforcement officers who pass the course will receive an official card issued by the Sheriff’s Office confirming their successful completion. However, the Sheriff’s Office clarified that it does not issue cards through the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards. Specific range rules and process limitations will apply, according to the Sheriff’s Office. For detailed rules or additional information, retired officers can contact the Sheriff’s Office at (870) 425-7000.
