A minor earthquake was recorded near the Arkansas-Missouri state line on Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The magnitude 2.2 earthquake occurred at 9:52 a.m., centered approximately 3.8 miles east-northeast of Steele, Missouri, and about 14.8 miles northeast of Blytheville, Arkansas.
USGS data indicates the earthquake registered at a depth of approximately 5 miles.
Preliminary reports from the USGS show no damage or injuries associated with the tremor, and no residents in the area have reported feeling it.
The affected region lies within the New Madrid Seismic Zone, which the USGS describes as the most active earthquake zone in North America east of the Rocky Mountains.
