JONESBORO — The Arkansas State University Department of Theatre will stage a comedic production titled “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) [Revised] (Again)” in October at Simpson Theatre within the Fowler Center.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, Saturday, Oct. 3, Friday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 10. Matinee shows will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, and Sunday, Oct. 11.

The performance, written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield, condenses all 37 plays attributed to William Shakespeare into a single, fast-paced comedy that incorporates witty humor, physical comedy, and audience involvement. Director Dallas Martinez described the show as accessible for everyone, regardless of their familiarity with Shakespeare.

“If you are not familiar with Shakespeare, that’s perfect,” Martinez said. “The show introduces everyone to the works of William Shakespeare through humor. This show is for anyone who wants to laugh and poke fun at the world, with Shakespeare sprinkled in.”

The play distills Shakespeare’s tragedies, comedies, and histories into an energetic performance, utilizing an interactive approach that engages the audience as integral participants in the show. Martinez emphasized that the production is designed for those seeking entertaining, modern interpretations of the Bard's works.

The cast features Zoey Newcomb, Ray Pratt, and Khamaree Quinn, who perform under their real names while delivering the material. A robust production team supports the play, with key members including scenic designer Jeff McLaughlin, costume designer Jo Crites, lighting designer Josh Gilpin, and sound designer Olin Hahn. Isaiah Wallis serves as fight choreographer, while Maggie Martin oversees the production as stage manager.

Additional crew members include assistant stage managers Josie Stevenson, Kelly Clark, and Donovan Walters, properties managers Max Emery and Heidi Holt, and technicians specializing in wardrobe, lighting, and set construction. The effort encompasses numerous contributors from multiple university shops, including costumes, electronics, and scene design.

Tickets for the production range from $10 to $15 and can be purchased online or by calling (870) 972-2781. The show contains rapid-fire pacing, physical humor, and light innuendo, making it appropriate for those seeking a lively, modern spin on Shakespeare’s plays.
