A Paragould man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly struck one officer with his head and kicked another during an arrest last week.

On Tuesday, District Judge Curtis Hitt found probable cause to charge Douglas Hedrick with second-degree battery, third-degree battery, resisting arrest, public intoxication, and criminal trespass.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Paragould police were called to the 200 block of South 13th Avenue on Sept. 29 after Hedrick was reportedly seen at a residence where he had earlier been issued a no-trespass order.

While responding to the call, officers reportedly saw Hedrick walking down the street carrying items identified as property from the same residence. Officers reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol when they approached him.

Hedrick was taken into custody for public intoxication. As one officer searched Hedrick’s pockets during the arrest, he reportedly “lurched suddenly” and struck the officer in the face with his head. The officer sustained swelling and redness to his left cheekbone, according to the affidavit.

Another officer tried to place Hedrick into a patrol vehicle, at which point Hedrick allegedly kicked the officer in the chest. The officer was not injured by the kicks, according to the report.

Hedrick is being held on a $100,000 cash or surety bond and faces several conditions if released. Judge Hitt has ordered that Hedrick wear an ankle monitor, have no contact with the victim, and refrain from possessing any weapons.

The investigation is ongoing.
