LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas residents will have the chance to dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired medications safely and anonymously during Arkansas Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24.
Law enforcement agencies in every county will host collection events as part of the initiative, which aims to curb prescription drug misuse, prevent accidental poisonings, and limit waterway contamination from improper medication disposal.
“Substance misuse prevention starts right at home, and Arkansans in every corner of the state have the power to protect their loved ones,” said Kirk Lane, director of the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership. “Cleaning out medicine cabinets and dropping by a collection site only takes a few minutes, and leads to a much greater impact.”
The event builds on the success of previous efforts. Earlier this year, during the spring 2026 collection, Arkansas teams safely disposed of 50,240 pounds of medications. Since the program launched in 2010, 367 tons of medication have been destroyed statewide.
In addition to the twice-yearly take-back events, residents can access more than 300 permanent drop boxes located across Arkansas. These year-round options provide a safe and environmentally friendly alternative to keeping unneeded medications in the home or disposing of them improperly.
Arkansans can locate their nearest drop box, as well as participating Drug Take Back Day sites, by visiting ARDrugTakeBack.org/Dispose-of-Drugs or using the ReviveAR app. For more information on the initiative, visit ARDrugTakeBack.org.
