MARION, Ark. — A man from Independence, Louisiana, was fatally struck by a vehicle on Interstate 40 in Crittenden County early on Aug. 22, according to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police.

The pedestrian, identified as 41-year-old Ross Caronna Jr., was walking south across the interstate near mile marker 279 when he was struck by a westbound 2023 Chevrolet Traverse at around 12:30 a.m., state police said.

No other injuries were reported in the incident, according to law enforcement.

The weather was clear, and the road conditions were dry at the time of the crash, the report noted. The investigating officer is Trooper Dylan Evans, Badge 178. The Arkansas State Police emphasized that the summary is preliminary and does not make a final determination of fault.

The incident remains under investigation.
