Drivers in Arkansas are seeing some relief at the pump as gas prices statewide have dropped below $4 per gallon for the first time in weeks. According to a release from AAA Arkansas, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline fell 7 cents over the past week, settling at $3.99 per gallon as of Thursday.

The national average also fell by a similar margin, reaching $4.41 per gallon. Despite the declines, AAA emphasized that fuel prices remain at historic highs for this time of year.

“This follows a record-setting September at the pump,” the agency stated in its report. “The monthly average was $4.33, which is 50 cents higher than the previous September record of $3.83, set in 2023.”

Industry analysts link the price decreases to a decline in crude oil prices, which recently dipped into the $90-per-barrel range. However, AAA cautioned that overall fuel expenses continue to outstrip those of previous years for the current season.

While the statewide average dropped, prices varied across Arkansas’s largest metropolitan markets, reflecting region-specific factors.

AAA’s data comes as fuel costs across the U.S. remain a focal point for both households and policymakers navigating prolonged periods of elevated pricing.
