Jonesboro – Nominations are now open for the ninth annual Living Legends Awards, which will take place as part of Black History Month celebrations early next year. Community members are invited to submit nominations throughout October to recognize individuals contributing to their community through leadership, advocacy, collaboration, or service.

"It’s important for our community to take part in the nomination process because many individuals who make the greatest impact do so quietly, consistently and without seeking recognition," said Carnesha Ben, a committee member for the Living Legends Awards. Ben added that public nominations help ensure the awards truly reflect the community's values.

This year’s theme, "From Black Print Culture to Digital Blackness," emphasizes the evolution of Black storytelling and cultural expression. According to Ben, the theme honors the ways Black voices have preserved history, fostered community, and inspired social change, from historical print traditions to today’s digital platforms.

"The Living Legends Awards allow us to pause, reflect, and acknowledge individuals whose dedication has shaped our community in meaningful ways," Ben said. She highlighted the significance of holding the awards during Black History Month, as it provides a platform to celebrate leadership, resilience, and service that inspire future generations.

The nomination period runs through Saturday, Oct. 31. Strong submissions should highlight specific examples of nominees’ contributions, such as projects they’ve led, initiatives they’ve supported, or ways they’ve positively influenced others.
