An abrupt daycare closure in Batesville has left parents scrambling to find alternative care for their children, highlighting a shortage of infant care in the region.

Bright Beginnings Daycare, operated as an outreach program of White Drive Baptist Church, permanently closed its doors on September 11, displacing around 150 children. The church, located less than a mile from the Batesville Fire Department, declined to comment on the closure, according to a report from KAIT.

Angela Swift, a clerk at the Independence County Library, was among the affected parents. She received notice on a Sunday evening, while other parents learned of the closure through a message posted at the daycare the following morning. The announcement came just days after the start of the school year, leaving families with limited time to find new arrangements.

Swift, who has an infant daughter, said the closure created additional challenges because infant care is already limited in Batesville, especially for children younger than 18 months. After an urgent search, she managed to secure a spot with the Midland School District in Pleasant Plains. However, the new arrangement has added 30 to 35 minutes to her morning commute, with family members stepping in to help with afternoon pickups.

The closure disrupted schedules for numerous families, many of whom had relied on Bright Beginnings for years. With local daycare facilities already operating at capacity, some parents are facing limited to nonexistent options as they navigate the sudden change.

KAIT reported that the daycare’s closure was particularly difficult for working parents trying to balance their responsibilities without sufficient child care resources in the area.
