JONESBORO — St. Bernards held a Mind and Memory Boot Camp on Wednesday at the Bradbury Art Museum on the Arkansas State University campus, highlighting the importance of art in promoting cognitive health during Healthy Aging Month.

Dr. Cristina Rosca, a geriatric medicine and palliative care specialist with St. Bernards, discussed how art can enhance mental well-being and strengthen memory. Citing research conducted at institutions like the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Rosca explained that engaging in creative activities has measurable benefits.

“Art improves mood, functionality, and verbal fluency,” Rosca said. “Studies suggest that participating in art activities at least once a week could not only enhance memory but also help prevent Alzheimer’s disease.”

Rosca emphasized the importance of early detection in addressing cognitive decline, noting that family members often notice early signs, such as the person forgetting that they forgot something.

For those concerned about a loved one’s memory, St. Bernards offers resources and support. More information is available by calling 870-207-7555.
