Jonesboro police officers arrested 22 individuals during a recent sex offender compliance check operation, according to a report from local authorities.
The operation, conducted between September 22 and September 28, resulted in charges against each of the suspects, primarily for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements. Probable cause to bring charges was found by Craighead County District Judges Thomas Fowler and David Boling. Failure to register as a sex offender is classified as a Class C felony in Arkansas.
Among those arrested, Clarence Hayes faces additional charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class B felony, and possession of less than four ounces of a Schedule 6 controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
The multi-day compliance effort highlights the department's ongoing commitment to ensuring that sex offenders follow the state's registration laws. Law enforcement agencies frequently conduct these checks to ensure public safety and enforce compliance among registered offenders.
