JONESBORO, Ark. — A man is facing felony charges after police say he assaulted another man with a beer bottle in what witnesses described as an unprovoked attack.
Guy A. Moreno has been charged with second-degree battery, a Class D felony, and fleeing, a Class A misdemeanor, according to court documents filed in Craighead County.
The incident occurred on the evening of Sept. 27. Officers responding to a reported domestic disturbance on Viking Street discovered a man lying on the pavement with a bleeding head wound, according to a probable cause affidavit dated Sept. 28. Witnesses at the scene told police that Moreno had left the area.
Shortly after, officers spotted a shirtless man running nearby. After a brief foot chase, Moreno was apprehended, police wrote in the affidavit.
Witness accounts detailed in the affidavit allege that Moreno attacked the man without provocation. Moreno reportedly struck the victim twice with a beer bottle, with the second blow shattering the bottle and causing the man to fall. Witnesses said Moreno continued the assault by stomping on the victim’s head and abdomen and punching him repeatedly in the face while he remained on the ground.
The victim sustained multiple injuries, including a facial laceration, bruising to the head, and fractures to both the nose and an eye socket, the affidavit states. By the time officers arrived, the victim’s left eye had swollen shut.
Judge David Boling set Moreno’s bond at $250,000 cash or surety and required GPS monitoring if released. Moreno’s next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 26 at the Craighead County Courthouse in Jonesboro.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
