A Paragould man faces multiple charges after allegedly assaulting two officers during his arrest on Friday, Sept. 29, according to an affidavit filed in Greene County District Court.
Douglas Hedrick has been charged with second-degree battery, a Class D felony, and four misdemeanors following an incident that began with police responding to a trespassing report, court documents state. A bond of $100,000 was set for Hedrick, and he is required to wear an ankle monitor, avoid possessing weapons, and refrain from contacting potential victims or witnesses as part of his bond conditions.
According to the affidavit signed by Paragould Detective Lt. Jack Hailey, officers were dispatched to a residence on South 13th Avenue after receiving a report that Hedrick had returned to a property from which he had been barred earlier that day. While heading to the location, officers encountered Hedrick walking on the street carrying items that had been on the premises. The affidavit does not allege theft.
Police noted Hedrick displayed signs of intoxication, including a strong odor of alcohol, and placed him under arrest for public intoxication. As officers attempted to search Hedrick’s pocket during the arrest, he allegedly “lurched suddenly,” striking one officer in the face with his head. The officer suffered redness and swelling on the left cheekbone, according to the report.
While being escorted to a patrol vehicle, Hedrick allegedly kicked a second officer in the chest and resisted further efforts to secure him in the car. The affidavit notes that the kicks did not cause any injuries to the officer.
Hedrick faces charges of second-degree battery, interference with a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, public intoxication, and criminal trespass. The misdemeanors include two Class A counts and two Class C counts, according to court records.
The court found probable cause to issue an arrest warrant and ordered Hedrick’s bond with additional conditions, including compliance with GPS monitoring and avoiding any contact with individuals involved in the case.
Hedrick is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
