The No. 13 Arkansas Razorbacks secured a runner-up finish at the Bryan Bros Collegiate Invitational, closing with a 10-under-par 274 on the final day at the par-71 Solina Golf Club. The team’s three-day total of 18-under 834 placed them just one stroke behind Ole Miss, who captured the tournament title.
Arkansas head coach Brad McMakin praised his team's resolve. “We put ourselves in a hole after the first round,” he said. “But I am really proud of the way we fought back and played the final two rounds. Erich, Thomas, and Gerry played like the proven veterans they are.”
Sophomore Erich Fortlage and junior Thomas Curry led the Razorbacks with strong individual performances, finishing second and seventh overall, respectively. The team rallied late, playing the final eight holes at eight-under-par, briefly tying Ole Miss for the lead before the Rebels secured the win with solid short-game play and clutch putts, according to McMakin.
The standout performance of the tournament, however, belonged to Razorback freshman Neo Berg. Competing as an individual, the Svanesund, Sweden, native carded a 64 in the final round, highlighted by nine birdies and just two bogeys. His performance included birdies on six of his first nine holes and three of his first four on the back nine. The score marked a dramatic 22-stroke improvement from his second-round 86. Berg’s 64 ties for the second-lowest single-round score by a Razorback freshman in program history and is the team’s best round since 2018.
The Razorbacks will return to action this week, hosting the 7th Annual Blessings Collegiate Invitational, presented by Tyson Foods, from Oct. 3-5.
