Jonesboro Committee Advances Plans for Disciple Park in Hilltop Area

JONESBORO, Ark. — Plans for a new all-inclusive park in Jonesboro’s Hilltop area took another step forward after approval from the city’s Finance and Administration Committee.

On Thursday, the committee advanced two resolutions authorizing the purchase of equipment and materials for Disciple Park, an 18-acre space designed to serve children of all abilities. The park will be located on land purchased by the city last year along Disciple Drive. Final approval for the resolutions now moves to the Jonesboro City Council.

The first resolution allows the city to enter an agreement with ACS Playground Adventures, which will supply and install synthetic green and blue turf for the park’s playground area, along with approximately 20 Goric play balls. According to company proposals submitted to the city, this portion of the project is estimated to cost $620,041.

The second resolution involves a custom playground package provided by Landscape Structures Inc. The near $808,000 package will include slides, swings, and various equipment to ensure the park is accessible to children regardless of ability.

Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver highlighted the importance of the park, describing it as a step toward uniting the community and ensuring equitable access to recreational spaces.

“So I’m excited about it, number one, from the standpoint that it is now connecting all pieces of our community together. Also, I have a passion for all children and all youth to have access to the parks. And with that, this is an all-inclusive park,” Copenhaver said.

In addition to inclusive playground features, the preliminary design calls for expansive turf areas and multiple walking trails connecting families to and through the park. According to officials, this project marks four years of planning and was made possible through grant funding secured by the city.

Construction on Disciple Park is slated to begin in spring 2027, with the goal of completing the project by year’s end.

The City Council is expected to discuss and vote on the resolutions at its next meeting.
