JONESBORO, Ark. — The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas is experiencing reduced food supplies just weeks before Thanksgiving, as demand continues to rise to record levels.
According to Christie Jordan, CEO of the food bank, their warehouse is facing noticeable shortages. Typically, the organization maintains a 60-day supply of food. Currently, those reserves have dipped significantly.
“So, at any given time, we typically have about 60 days’ worth of food in our warehouse at the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas. And right now, we don’t have that type of supply,” Jordan explained.
Jordan noted that demand for assistance has remained persistent throughout 2026. The organization had already surpassed its 2025 record of aid distribution earlier this year.
“The more people that need assistance, we have to have food replenishing that to keep being able to meet the need in our community,” she said.
With Thanksgiving approaching—a time when the food bank typically stocks extra supplies—Jordan said they are unable to make the usual holiday preparations. “Normally, this time of year, we are looking at getting additional food so that we can have more on hand specifically for the Thanksgiving holiday. Right now, we just don’t have that luxury,” she said.
The food bank is urging donations of simple, easy-to-prepare meals to help meet urgent needs. Jordan listed items such as canned soups, canned spaghetti products, and other fully prepared or canned meals as most critical.
Financial contributions are also welcome. The food bank reports that, due to wholesale purchasing, each donated dollar provides approximately three and a half meals.
