JONESBORO, Ark. — A 52-year-old Jonesboro man is facing multiple drug-related charges after investigators say a recorded methamphetamine sale prompted a search of his apartment, leading to the discovery of narcotics and cash. Tyree Reginald Banks was arrested on Sept. 24 outside his apartment on Self Circle as agents with the 2nd Judicial District Drug Task Force prepared to execute a search warrant, according to a probable cause affidavit. Inside the apartment, investigators reported finding 9.8 grams of methamphetamine, 17 ecstasy pills, 12 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, packaging material, and drug paraphernalia. Banks’ identification was found in a cabinet where the drugs were located, the affidavit stated. The search stemmed from an earlier investigation in August, during which a confidential informant reportedly purchased between 2 and 10 grams of methamphetamine from Banks. According to another affidavit dated Aug. 31, the informant had been searched before completing the transaction, provided with task force money and a concealed recording device, and monitored as they visited Banks’ apartment. An investigator said the recording showed Banks weighing and packaging methamphetamine in the kitchen. The purchased substance tested positive for methamphetamine on a narcotics analyzer, according to the affidavit. Banks is now facing several charges across two cases. For the August controlled purchase, he is charged with delivery of methamphetamine or cocaine, a Class B felony. Although the statutory charge includes either drug, affidavits specifically identify the substance as methamphetamine. Following the September 24 search, Banks faces Class B felony charges of possession of methamphetamine or cocaine with purpose to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is also charged with Class C felonies for possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance other than methamphetamine or cocaine with purpose to deliver and operating a drug premises. Additionally, he faces a Class A misdemeanor for possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with purpose to deliver. Court records also list an allegation of enhanced penalties for drug distribution near certain protected facilities, though the affidavit does not identify the specific location involved. Judge Thomas Fowler determined there was probable cause to proceed with the charges on Sept. 28. Banks' bond has been set at $175,000 cash or surety. He has been appointed a public defender and is scheduled to appear in Craighead County Circuit Court at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 23. The charges are allegations only, and Banks is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
