JONESBORO, Ark. — The City of Jonesboro is asking residents to weigh in on safety and traffic concerns at 18 railroad crossings along the BNSF rail corridor. The feedback will help shape recommendations for potential upgrades, bridges, underpasses, traffic changes, or closures. Residents have until October 12 to participate in the survey.
The survey asks residents to identify crossings they believe should be replaced with a bridge, underpass, or other solutions, focusing on locations that cause the most impact to their daily travel. Crossings under review include four along Dan Avenue, individual crossings at Culberhouse Street, Fisher Street, Neil Drive, and Airport Road, as well as several along Arkansas 463.
Feedback may also include reports of blocked crossings, near misses, poor visibility, rough pavement, and obstacles for pedestrians or cyclists. Additionally, residents are encouraged to address issues such as effects on nearby properties and neighborhoods, usage by heavy vehicles or farm equipment, and concerns about existing infrastructure like bridges.
Jonesboro Engineering Director Craig Light said the survey responses will assist the city in determining priority areas for improvements. Paper comment forms are available for download and can be mailed to the city engineering department by October 12 at 300 S. Church Street, Jonesboro, AR 72401. The online survey is also accessible and provides the same opportunity for input.
