JONESBORO, Ark. — A man is facing felony charges after a domestic disturbance Monday in Jonesboro, during which he allegedly choked a woman inside a vehicle, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Cameron Kentray Guel has been charged with aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony, and third-degree domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor. Police responding to the scene observed blood on Guel’s clothing, scratches, and a torn shirt collar. Guel told officers he had been assaulted by the woman and another person. He admitted to restraining the woman but reportedly did not elaborate on how, the affidavit states.
When officers later spoke with the woman at a separate location, they noted visible swelling around her eyes and nose, along with scratches and marks on her neck consistent with strangulation. The woman told police Guel grabbed her throat repeatedly during an altercation in a vehicle, releasing her briefly to breathe before resuming, according to the affidavit. She said she struck him in self-defense, attempting to free herself.
A witness told officers they observed Guel choking the woman and intervened to pull him off her.
Following the incident, Judge Thomas Fowler found probable cause to move forward with the charges and set Guel's bond at $25,000 cash or surety. The judge also ordered Guel to have no contact with the woman. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 26.
Under state law, all individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
