A Brookland woman has been charged with drug possession following a fatal overdose in a Jonesboro hotel room, according to police and court records.
Ashlyn Renee Blevins, 30, was arrested on charges of possession of fentanyl, a Class C felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class D felony. Craighead County District Judge Thomas Fowler determined probable cause for the charges during a hearing on Monday.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Jonesboro police responded to an overdose at the Comfort Inn on Sept. 27. Emergency responders found a man lying on the floor of a hotel room and attempted lifesaving measures, but the man was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Law enforcement has charged another individual with homicide in connection with the death.
Investigators reported finding suspected drugs and paraphernalia visible inside the hotel room. Witnesses said the deceased had been sharing the room with Blevins, who left the scene before officers arrived. Police also noted an earlier emergency call linked to Blevins. Around 7:36 a.m., they say she called 911 but disconnected. Dispatchers followed up, and Blevins reportedly stated she was “okay and did not need assistance.”
Items discovered at the scene included approximately 1 gram of suspected fentanyl, a straw bearing fentanyl residue, suspected methamphetamine residue on furniture, and several prescription pills. Police later located Blevins in Brookland and brought her in for questioning.
During an interview at the Jonesboro Police Department, Blevins admitted she observed someone bringing fentanyl and methamphetamine into her room. She disclosed she had recently relapsed and was under the influence of substances for much of the weekend but claimed she had never used fentanyl before.
Blevins is being held on a $50,000 bond, with a court appearance scheduled for Nov. 23.
