The Baxter County Sheriff's Office has scheduled a firearms qualification shoot for retired law enforcement officers on Friday, October 30, 2026. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Sheriff's Firing Range, located at the former Baxter County Quarry on Baxter County Road 69 off Highway 5 South. Signs will mark the entrance to the facility.
Participation costs $10, payable in advance. Officers must bring their own firearms and ammunition, subject to specific restrictions. Interested individuals are required to register in person at the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office. The registration process includes completing a written application and signing a release and waiver of liability.
The course of fire, developed by certified firearms instructors from the Sheriff’s Office, will evaluate participants’ shooting proficiency. Retired officers who successfully complete the qualification will receive an official card from the Sheriff's Office confirming their certification. However, the certification does not extend to the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards, as the Sheriff's Office does not participate in that program.
