BROOKLAND, Ark. — Brookland Public Schools is finalizing preparations to open a new intermediate school that will serve third and fourth graders, addressing space and traffic challenges caused by the area’s rapid population growth.
The new two-story facility, located on Dixie Road, will be ready to welcome students when the school year begins on Aug. 17, school officials confirmed. Principal Jennifer Jaynes noted that overcrowding had forced some students into portable classrooms in recent years. “By having this building, we’re alleviating that problem,” Jaynes said.
The school district chose to build the campus away from its existing Oak Street location to reduce traffic congestion around its other facilities. The Dixie Road location represents a move to a larger space that can better accommodate the needs of Brookland’s growing community.
The facility is designed with modern amenities, including a library, playgrounds, and spaces for fine arts education, such as a stage for performances and advanced music instruction—features not available at Brookland Elementary. The gymnasium is equipped to serve as a certified storm shelter, providing enhanced safety for students and staff.
An open house is scheduled for Aug. 13, offering families a chance to tour the building before the academic year gets underway.
Officials expect the new campus to not only improve conditions for students but also enhance educational opportunities.
