A group of Mountain Home-area swimmers brought home 28 medals after competing in the Arkansas Senior Olympics, proving that age is no barrier to spirited competition. Seven local athletes, who call themselves Team JoJo, participated in 30 individual swimming events during the recent games, which feature participants aged 50 and older.

The team includes swimmers ranging in age from 53 to 87, highlighting the diversity and determination of the group. For Sefrona, one of the team members and a first-time competitor in the Senior Olympics, the experience offered more than just an opportunity to compete—it served as a testament to the joy of personal accomplishment. Sefrona earned two silver medals during the event.

One swimmer, who had only joined the team two weeks before the competition, made an impressive debut by competing in six events and setting state records in all of them.

Team JoJo member JoJo, who has been participating in the Senior Olympics since 2017, emphasized that the event is about more than just the medals. In addition to fostering camaraderie and promoting active living, she noted that the games offer older adults an opportunity to explore a variety of sports beyond swimming. JoJo added that swimming is especially beneficial because it provides a low-impact way to stay fit while remaining competitive.

The Arkansas Senior Olympics includes events across multiple sports, encouraging participation from older Arkansans who seek to remain active and engaged. For more information about the organization and upcoming competitions, visit their official website.
