Nearly 80,000 people in northeast Arkansas face food insecurity, including one in three children. A volunteer effort during the United Way Day of Caring brought local partners together to address this pressing issue.
The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas, with support from K8, organized a food-packing event that resulted in 384 boxes prepared for distribution. These boxes, containing items like juice, raisins, beans, and canned vegetables, collectively provide over 5,600 meals to families in need.
“We were happy to partner with the United Way for their annual Day of Caring. And K8 came out to pack some food boxes for us,” said Elizabeth Johnson, donor engagement coordinator for the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas.
The meal boxes will be distributed to individuals and families across Craighead, Greene, and Jackson counties. According to Johnson, the boxes will be handed out during food bank distribution events, which are open to anyone seeking food assistance.
“So, these boxes will actually be given out in our distributions. So, anyone in need of food can come to these distributions and get food,” she explained.
The effort highlights the ongoing fight against food insecurity in the region, where thousands of residents struggle to access reliable and nutritious meals.
