Delta Air Lines has announced it will permanently discontinue its nonstop service between Memphis International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
The route, which had been suspended in June, was initially slated to resume operations this September. However, the airline has since reversed those plans, confirming that it will no longer offer the connection.
“We apologize for this inconvenience, and Delta will directly contact customers to discuss alternate options,” a Delta spokesperson said in a public statement.
Despite the termination of the JFK route, Delta continues to offer three daily flights between Memphis and New York City’s LaGuardia Airport. Passengers seeking travel alternatives are encouraged to explore this service.
The decision to permanently end the Memphis-to-JFK route potentially reflects aftershocks from the shifting dynamics of air travel demand and operational adjustments impacting regional airports. Memphis International Airport remains a major transit hub for travelers in the mid-South region.
Travelers with previously booked tickets on the now-canceled route are advised to await direct communication from Delta regarding rebooking options or refunds.
