A Paragould man has been sentenced to probation following his guilty plea to injuring two police officers during an arrest attempt in late 2025. Jeritt L. Wimberley, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree battery-certain persons. On Monday, Second Judicial Circuit Judge Melissa Richardson sentenced him to 309 days in the Greene County Detention Center with credit for time served, as well as six months of probation. According to the sentencing order, additional charges, including battery, fleeing on foot with serious injury, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental operations, were dismissed. The charges stem from an incident on Oct. 29, 2025, when Paragould police responded to a tip about a wanted individual in a vehicle parked at Hays No. 10, located at 402 E. Kingshighway. Officers identified Wimberley as the passenger and attempted to take him into custody, Sgt. Jacob Higdon said in an affidavit. Wimberley provided a false name and resisted when officers tried to handcuff him, leading to a physical struggle. "After a brief struggle with officers, the defendant shoved one officer to the ground and fled on foot," Higdon stated. Two officers sustained injuries during the incident, including one who suffered a serious leg injury. On Nov. 1, 2025, a judge determined there was probable cause to issue an arrest warrant for Wimberley, and he was later booked into the Greene County Detention Center on Feb. 26, 2026. No further details about the conditions of Wimberley’s probation were immediately available.
