Maynard, Ark.—Residents relying on the Maynard Waterworks system have been advised to boil water before use, following a precautionary boil order confirmed by the Arkansas Department of Health on July 28.
The boil order affects the entire water system and was issued after a water main break disrupted system pressure, creating the potential for contaminated water to enter the distribution network, according to Linda Davis, a city hall official. It is unclear when the problem began, but the order was issued as a preventative safety measure for customers.
Until further notice, residents are instructed to boil water for one minute prior to consuming it or using it for food preparation. Ice cubes made from water during this advisory period should be discarded, and only boiled or bottled water should be used for making ice.
The Arkansas Department of Health will lift the order only after laboratory testing confirms the water is free of bacterial contamination and disinfectant levels throughout the system meet regulatory standards.
