The Mountain Home Lady Bombers volleyball team dropped a hard-fought match against Alma, falling in five sets on Monday night. The contest marked the end of the first half of 5A-West conference play, and Mountain Home remains in search of its first league victory this season.
The evening began on a positive note for the Lady Bombers, as their junior varsity squad secured a two-set sweep with scores of 25-21 and 25-17. In varsity action, Mountain Home started strong but ultimately could not outlast Alma in a nail-biting five-set battle.
The Airedales opened the first set with a commanding nine-point lead, but Mountain Home rallied to narrow the deficit to just one point before Alma secured the set 25-23. The Lady Bombers responded in the second set, grinding out a 25-22 win to even the match at one set apiece.
Alma regained control in the third set, leading from start to finish for a 25-18 victory. Undeterred, Mountain Home fought back in the fourth set, matching Alma's intensity and taking the frame 25-22 to force a decisive fifth set.
The final set showcased intense back-and-forth competition, with ties at 4-4, 6-6, 9-9, 12-12, and 14-14. Alma ultimately clinched the last two points to win the set 16-14 and take the match 3-2.
With the defeat, the Lady Bombers drop to 0-6 in 5A-West conference play. They will have a few days to regroup before resuming their season on Thursday with an away match at Farmington.
