PARAGOULD, Ark. — Arkansas State Police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old inmate at the Greene County Detention Center following a medical emergency late Friday morning.
Sheriff Brad Snyder said the incident occurred at approximately 11:16 a.m. on September 22. On-site medical staff and detention personnel attempted to revive the inmate with CPR until fire and emergency medical services arrived and took over care.
The individual, identified by state police as Atiyana Willis of Forrest City, was transported to the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Paragould. She was pronounced dead at 12:01 p.m., Snyder reported.
In line with protocol, the Arkansas State Police has been tasked with the investigation, and an autopsy has been requested. Snyder added that Willis' family and emergency contacts were notified the same day.
The sheriff's statement did not disclose the nature of Willis’ medical emergency, and media inquiries have been directed to the Arkansas State Police Public Information Office in Little Rock.
The investigation remains ongoing.
