At this month’s meeting of the Viola City Council, aldermen voted to keep the city’s millage rate at five percent for the coming year. The decision ensures no change in the rate applied to residents' property for funding city services.
In other business, the council addressed updates to the city’s parking ordinance. A motion was passed to establish fines for violations under the ordinance: $50 for a first offense and $100 for a second offense. These penalties aim to discourage improper parking and improve compliance.
The council also explored the possibility of enhancing security measures by obtaining cameras for City Hall and the city park. While no formal action was taken, the discussion signaled an interest in boosting safety at public facilities.
Additionally, the city is investigating a loan through White River Planning and Development District. The financing would be used to acquire equipment for the water, sewer, and street departments, addressing operational needs across key municipal services.
