FORREST CITY, Ark. — A 34-year-old inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution Forrest City Medium has died after being found unresponsive in his cell, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Sean Spurlock was discovered unresponsive just before 11 p.m. on July 23 at the federal facility in Forrest City, Arkansas. Staff administered life-saving measures before transporting him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Monday, the agency said in a statement.
Spurlock was serving an 84-month sentence following a conviction in Eastern Kentucky for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of a substance containing methamphetamine. He had been incarcerated at the Forrest City prison since August 2023, with a projected release date of December 2028.
Officials did not immediately disclose a cause of death. The Bureau of Prisons stated that no other inmates or staff were injured in connection to the incident.
The agency noted that an internal investigation and a review by an outside medical examiner are standard procedures following deaths in its facilities. Spurlock’s family has been notified, authorities said.
Forrest City Medium is one of two federal prisons located in Forrest City, approximately 85 miles northeast of Little Rock. The complex houses over 2,000 male inmates across its medium- and low-security units.
Further details about the circumstances of Spurlock’s death have not been released. Authorities declined to provide additional comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
