JONESBORO, Ark. — The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas held its annual “Empty Bowls” fundraiser on Thursday, raising $69,327 to combat food insecurity across the region. The lunchtime event featured a drive-thru format where participants could purchase raffle tickets and receive donated meals from local restaurants, all while reflecting on the event’s core message: while some bowls are full, others remain empty.
Rebecca Hendrix, the food bank’s chief development officer, explained how funds raised during the event will directly support their mission. “We’re going to turn around and buy food with it,” Hendrix said. “Our shelves are bare. We’ve had a tough time lately with being able to get donated food in and receiving funds.”
Although the event fell slightly short of its $70,000 target, the total raised will help provide an estimated 208,000 meals for those in need. Hendrix emphasized that the demand for food remains high, highlighting the importance of continued community support through donations and volunteer efforts.
The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas serves families across 12 counties in the region, offering critical assistance to those facing hunger. Organizers expressed gratitude for the turnout and contributions but noted that the fight against food insecurity is ongoing.
