The Batesville Area Arts Council (BAAC) is offering a hands-on Halloween Printmaking Workshop this Saturday, September 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will take place at the council’s gallery space, located at 246 E. Main Street in downtown Batesville.
Participants will learn the step-by-step process of designing and carving linoleum blocks to create custom spooky prints. These prints can then be transferred onto paper or textiles, including bandanas, tote bags, and zipper pouches provided by the gallery. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own 100% cotton clothing items, such as T-shirts, to customize with their designs.
Instructor Dustyn Bork emphasized the creative opportunity this workshop offers. "It gives them an opportunity to create something they can express themselves with, but they also get an opportunity to wear it and show it off," he said during an interview on local radio station Arkansas 103.3 KWOZ.
The workshop is open to individuals ages 13 and older due to the use of sharp carving tools. It is priced at $50 for the general public and $45 for BAAC members. Pre-registration is required for all participants and can be completed online at batesvilleareaartscouncil.org or by calling the gallery at 870-793-3382.
For younger children, BAAC will hold a separate free event on Halloween day, where they can decorate trick-or-treat bags. That event, sponsored by Main Street Batesville, will take place at the gallery on October 31 from 10 a.m. to noon.
