Mountain Home High School seniors explored their future options on Wednesday as the school launched its Arkansas Applied Campaign, a statewide initiative encouraging students to plan their next steps before graduating in May.
Russell Tucker, co-owner of Rapp’s Barren Brewing Co. and a business development account manager at Black Hills Energy, served as the event’s keynote speaker. Tucker shared his personal journey from high school to his career, offering seniors a relatable perspective on life after graduation.
The event also featured insights from the Class of 2026. Sophomores recorded a video offering advice about their own experiences with the campaign, providing practical tips and encouragement to this year's seniors. The day concluded with an overview of future Arkansas Applied events, opportunities for participation, and prize giveaways for students.
The campaign aligns with a significant statewide shift in how seniors approach college applications. On August 18, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and the Arkansas Department of Education introduced the Arkansas ACCESS Portal. This new online system streamlines the college application process by allowing students to apply to up to five participating colleges through a single login, with no application fees. Public two-year and four-year institutions statewide, along with many private schools, are participating.
Using the portal, students can transfer information such as transcripts, grades, and test scores directly from the state’s electronic transcript system, eliminating redundant data entry. Those who meet baseline admission criteria may be granted provisional acceptance. The platform, mandated by the Arkansas ACCESS Act of 2025, rollouts this year with the current senior class being the first to use it.
School counselors and career coaches are guiding the rollout through initiatives such as senior advisory sessions, FAFSA nights, and dedicated application events. Officials hope to see every senior submit at least one college application before priority deadlines.
The campaign also coincides with Arkansas College Application Month, which promotes postsecondary education by encouraging seniors to apply to colleges, technical programs, apprenticeships, or certificate programs while completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Governor Sanders has emphasized that ACCESS aims to ensure every Arkansas high school graduate is prepared to enroll in school, enlist in the military, or enter the workforce immediately.
