GREENE COUNTY, Ark. — A 24-year-old man has been arrested on multiple felony charges in connection with the alleged sexual exploitation of a teenage victim, according to records from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

Derek M. Parks was booked into the Greene County Jail at 9:40 a.m. on Sept. 22. He faces one count of first-degree computer exploitation of a child, a Class Y felony, and one count of fourth-degree sexual assault, a Class D felony. Both incidents are alleged to have occurred on or around June 5, according to an affidavit.

The investigation began on Sept. 14, when the parent of the teenage victim reported to police that Parks had repeatedly contacted their child, the affidavit states. The parent told investigators that Parks had previously stayed in their household after claiming to be 17 and without a place to live.

An investigator from the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division interviewed the victim on Sept. 15. The teenager disclosed that Parks had recorded a sexual encounter over the summer, according to court documents. A detective reviewing the teen’s phone confirmed the presence of a video showing the encounter, noting that the tattoos on the male in the footage matched Parks’ tattoos, the affidavit says.

Messages between Parks and the teen were also uncovered during the investigation. The parent provided additional messages in which Parks allegedly claimed to be 18. Investigators noted that Parks’ public social media profile displayed photos of him with the teenage victim and referenced their relationship.

On Sept. 16, the parent informed authorities that Parks appeared to be moving. A detective observed that Parks had deleted photos and relationship details from his social media profile, as well as changed his listed location to Texarkana. The affidavit did not confirm his whereabouts at that time.

A judge approved an arrest warrant based on the affidavit, with the decision on Parks’ release deferred until his apprehension. Parks was taken into custody on Sept. 22. His bond has been set at $500,000.

Authorities emphasize that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
