OSCEOLA, Ark.—Search crews continue their efforts on the Mississippi River following a fatal boat accident Sunday night near Sans Souci Landing.
Authorities reported that three people were on board the vessel when it capsized and was submerged under a barge. One person was killed, another survived, and the third remains missing.
The Osceola Fire Department received the emergency call at approximately 7:30 p.m. and responded alongside the Blytheville Emergency Squad and other local units. Multiple agencies, including the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, are working together on search operations near the Arkansas side of the river.
“Right now, it’s still under investigation as to the cause of the incident, but we’ll be able to get information out on that soon,” said Randy Zellers, communications assistant chief for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, in a statement Monday.
Zellers noted that rescue teams are actively collaborating on the water to locate the missing individual.
Local authorities and state agencies have not disclosed additional details about the boat or its occupants as the investigation remains ongoing.
