The Arkansas State University-Mountain Home (ASUMH) campus will host the Howl-O-Ween Scary and Hairy Fest on Saturday, Oct. 10. The event, aimed at benefiting Lucky Dawg Rescue, features a packed schedule filled with races, costume contests, and pet-friendly activities. All proceeds will go to the nonprofit rescue group, according to organizers.
The day begins with the 2.5K/5K Dawg Jog and fun walk at 8:30 a.m., where participants are encouraged to dress up along with their dogs. The registration fee for the Dawg Jog is $30. At 9:30 a.m., the event takes a spooky turn with the 5K Zombie Run. In this race, individuals or teams attempt to navigate a course as "zombies" try to tag them. The Zombie Run has a $35 registration fee and does not permit pets to participate.
From 10 a.m. to noon, attendees can enjoy a pet fair and adoption event featuring local animals in need of homes. Runners of a different kind will take to the starting line at 10:30 a.m. with the Inflatable Costume Race, which requires a $10 donation to enter. Another highlight, the tricycle race—divided by age groups—kicks off at 11 a.m. and also costs $10 to join. Entrants are encouraged to decorate their tricycles in advance.
The event concludes with a dog and owner costume contest at noon with a $20 donation to enter. Contest categories include best paired look, best group theme, funniest costume, coziest fall-inspired outfit, scariest dog, and best in show. All dogs participating in the fest must be leashed.
Music and entertainment for the day will be provided by DJ Peace, who will emcee the event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees can register for races online, and additional information about the event is available by contacting 870-321-4949 or 870-321-1553.
