Runners and walkers will have a rare opportunity to traverse a route typically reserved for airplanes as the Run the Runway 5K returns to Baxter County Airport on Saturday, Oct. 24. The event begins at 7:30 a.m., inviting participants of all ages and fitness levels to choose between a 5K race or a 1-mile walk on the airport's operational runway.
Registration for the event is $25 and can be completed online at pirateperryevents.com. Fees will increase after Oct. 18. On-site registration and packet pickup will be available between 6:30 and 7:15 a.m. on race day at the airport, located at 6462 Arkansas Highway 126 near Midway. The 5K will feature chip timing for accurate results.
Those who register on time will receive a race shirt, finisher medal, and post-race snacks. Awards will be presented to the overall top three male and female finishers, as well as to the top three participants in nine age divisions, ranging from under 10 to 70-plus.
The course includes one bonus partial loop near the half-mile mark, offering participants a unique perspective of the airport. Organizers encourage attendees to take advantage of the event to meet local pilots and aviation workers, while learning more about the airport’s operations and services.
