JONESBORO, Ark. — The Jonesboro Fire Department has introduced a new digital alert system designed to improve roadway safety by notifying motorists when emergency vehicles are nearby.
Through the Safety Cloud system, created by HAAS Alert, drivers of certain vehicles can receive real-time alerts about approaching fire trucks. These alerts show up on vehicle in-dash systems and navigation apps, such as Waze and Apple Maps, according to a news release from the department.
The feature is compatible with 2024 or newer Volkswagen models and 2018 or newer Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM vehicles.
“By giving you extra time to slow down and move over, Safety Cloud helps reduce collision risks by up to 90%,” the department stated in the release. The system also aids compliance with Arkansas’ Move Over laws, which require drivers to yield to emergency vehicles.
This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to enhance safety for first responders and road users alike, ensuring a quicker and safer transit for emergency vehicles during critical situations.
