A Paragould man faces multiple charges after police say he forcibly entered a home and severely injured a resident, sending the victim to a Memphis trauma center for reconstructive facial surgery.
According to court records, 35-year-old Zachary Huffman was arrested Monday after a July 26 incident in which he reportedly kicked down the door of a residence and attacked an occupant. Officers responding to the report found evidence of forced entry, including a heavily damaged interior door, and blood both inside and outside the home.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, sustained significant injuries and was hospitalized in Memphis for specialized treatment.
During an interview with investigators, Huffman admitted to breaking into the home and assaulting the individual, according to the affidavit.
District Judge Curtis Hitt determined there was probable cause to charge Huffman with aggravated residential burglary, second-degree battery, and first-degree criminal mischief. The judge set Huffman’s bond at $500,000 and imposed several conditions, including an ankle monitor requirement, a weapons prohibition, and an order barring contact with the victim, witnesses, or others involved in the case.
The investigation is ongoing.
