BONO, Ark. — Efforts are underway in Bono to repair water lines damaged by persistent drought conditions, city officials said.
Bono Public Works Director Adam Rufkahr explained that extreme heat and dry weather have caused the ground to shrink around buried water lines, putting stress on the infrastructure. "It’s terrible," Rufkahr said, noting the recent extreme weather. "It’s been 100-plus degrees, seems like for months now. It’s the worst summer that I’ve seen in 21 years of doing this kind of work. I can definitely say we’re in a drought."
According to Rufkahr, the shrinking soil has led to numerous breaks in smaller service lines, with more than a dozen repairs completed across the city so far. However, no damage has been reported to main water lines, and widespread service disruptions are not anticipated. Most damage is identified when water visibly pools on the surface, signaling a leak in the system.
Once a leak is reported, Rufkahr said repairs are typically cleared for excavation and completed within three to four days.
Residents are encouraged to continue reporting leaks promptly to ensure swift repairs during these challenging conditions.
