The annual Beatles at the Ridge festival is underway in Walnut Ridge, drawing visitors from across the United States and beyond. Coordinated by the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, the event honors the legacy of the Beatles' brief stop at the Walnut Ridge Airport in 1964. According to Chamber Director Terrance Ward, attendees enjoy live music, a walk down a replica of Abbey Road, and the chance to experience the local history tied to the Rock 'n' Roll Highway.
Two stages—Cavanaugh Auto World Rock 'n' Roll Stage and the KASU Arkansas Roots Stage—feature performances by local musicians throughout the day. Tonight, the Liverpool Legends, a Beatles tribute band, will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. The group, led by Marty Scott as "George Harrison," has participated in every Beatles at the Ridge festival since its inception. Scott credits George Harrison's sister, Lucille, with inspiring their involvement after the two struck up a friendship. The festival has grown steadily over the years, earning recognition as the Arkansas Parks and Tourism Department's "Festival of the Year" in 2022.
In addition to musical acts, other attractions include the Abbey Road Car Show near Regions Bank and food offerings from 18 local vendors. Attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs or blankets for the performances.
Walnut Ridge Mayor Charles Snapp noted that the festival’s roots trace back to the Beatles’ unexpected landing at the city’s airport while en route to the Ozarks for a getaway. What began as a small tribute has become a widely recognized celebration, shining a spotlight on the community's unique connection to the Fab Four.
The event continues into the evening, drawing fans and families to enjoy food, music, and a shared love of history and culture.
