Jonesboro Man Faces Felony Theft Charge After Stolen Cadillac Listed on Facebook

JONESBORO — A stolen vehicle's appearance on Facebook Marketplace has resulted in a Jonesboro man's arrest and a felony theft accusation, according to court documents.

Kori Blake Hancock was taken into custody on September 17 on charges of felony theft, court records show. A probable cause affidavit states that the charge involves the theft of a 2007 Cadillac CTS valued between $1,000 and $5,000, classified as a Class D felony.

The car's owner reported it stolen to the Jonesboro Police Department on August 30, stating that she had previously purchased the vehicle but left it parked on the street near a residence after being evicted. She told investigators the vehicle was not operable at the time and she was trying to secure the necessary part to repair it. She also reported that the residence where the vehicle was parked had been burglarized, resulting in the theft of the car's title and other belongings before she could retrieve them.

According to the affidavit, the car's disappearance came to light when the owner discovered it listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. Investigators reached out to the previous owner of the Cadillac, who confirmed they had sold the vehicle to the current owner and had signed the back of the title.

Police say a witness told them that Hancock had requested her assistance in listing the Cadillac for sale, claiming he was its rightful owner. The affidavit also includes details about Facebook messages Hancock allegedly sent, including photos and details about the car, along with instructions to sell it.

Another witness said Hancock showed her a title for the Cadillac and told her that the vehicle’s owner had sold it to him for $100. The witness reportedly towed the vehicle to an address on Matthews Avenue at Hancock's request.

The investigating officer noted in the affidavit that Hancock declined to meet with police and stated he did not know the identity of the person who allegedly bought the car.

Judge Barbara Halsey found probable cause during Hancock's initial court appearance on September 18 and set his bond at $15,000, cash or surety. Hancock is scheduled to appear at the Craighead County Courthouse for his next hearing at 8:30 a.m. on October 26.

Court records emphasize that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
