A 50-year-old Mountain Home resident is facing charges after being accused of stealing brass vases from headstones at a cemetery in Baxter County.

Sheriff John Montgomery reported that David Sutterfield Jr. was taken into custody on Thursday and is being held at the Baxter County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond. Sutterfield faces allegations of removing vases from military grave markers at the Galatia Cemetery, cutting the items into pieces, and selling them as scrap to a local recycling business. According to Montgomery, the stolen vases were valued at approximately $10,000, while Sutterfield received only $130 for the materials.

Montgomery described Sutterfield as a habitual offender, explaining that this marks his 13th booking in Baxter County since 2016. The sheriff indicated that Sutterfield’s previous arrests involved a mix of felony and misdemeanor charges.

Sutterfield is scheduled to appear for arraignment in circuit court on Oct. 12.

Further investigation into the case is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact local authorities.
